What to Bring
- Reef-safe sunscreen: The sun reflects off the water — apply before you arrive
- Wide-brim hat & sunglasses: Essential at 6°N latitude, even on overcast mornings
- Light quick-dry clothing: Long sleeves protect better than a T-shirt; you will thank yourself later
- Closed-toe water shoes: Flip-flops work but water shoes grip better when boarding
- Small towel: For after the paddle; leave extra clothes in the vehicle
- Binoculars (optional): 8×42 is ideal for spotting kingfishers and raptors
What to Expect
- Calm, flat water: Rathgama is a sheltered lake — no surf, no currents in the channels
- Wildlife from the kayak: Kingfishers, herons, monitors — approach within metres quietly
- A relaxed pace: We stop, look, and listen — this is not a fitness paddle
- You may get splashed: Not much, but quick-dry clothes help if you do
- Warm water year-round: 27–30°C — comfortable for swimming if you want to

- Morning Tour (8:00 AM): Great for families; still active wildlife before the heat builds
- Sunset Tour (3:30 PM): Brahminy Kites, fruit bats, and dramatic skies over the lake
- November – February: Dry season peak: migratory birds + best photography light
- May – August: Lush green season, fewer tourists, kingfishers breeding
- Weekdays over weekends: Quieter lake, more personal experience with guides
Safety Reminders
- Always wear your life jacket: Even strong swimmers — it is non-negotiable on our tours

- Stay hydrated: Drink water before and after; dehydration sneaks up in tropical heat
- Sit, do not stand: Open-top kayaks are stable — standing is not worth the risk
- Respect the wildlife: Paddle slowly near animals; the closer approach goes to those who wait

No experience is needed — all tours are beginner-friendly. Our guides will have you paddling confidently within a few minutes.
Absolutely. Safety is our priority. Every tour includes certified life jackets, a pre-tour safety briefing, and a trained guide who accompanies you throughout.
Yes — children are welcome and we have smaller life jackets for them. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the same kayak or alongside.
Yes — we provide waterproof phone cases so you can photograph and film safely from the water. A small dry bag for other valuables is also available.
Light rain is fine — many guests prefer it. If conditions become unsafe, we will reschedule or issue a full refund. We never put guests on the water in dangerous weather.
Yes — free on-site parking plus changing rooms and clean bathroom facilities at the launch point.
